In the small Austrian town of Judenburg, there is a modest monument in the form of a gravestone with a plaque. The inscription on this monument tells the tragedy of the betrayal of the Cossacks in Austria and the suicides of those who, unwilling to face a slow death in the GULAG, chose to die on the spot. Beneath the stone lie three Cossacks who jumped from an old bridge into the Mur River and were retrieved from the water by the English already dead.

Today, it is difficult to say exactly how many people took their own lives or were shot in the factory hangars that the NKVD staff adapted into temporary barracks for the Cossacks. Executions were carried out under the noise of running engines, and the bodies were then burned in factory furnaces. This monument serves as a tribute to all the Cossacks who perished during those terrible days, and the local residents remember and honor them.

Nearby stands a preserved factory press from that time, symbolizing the fates of the Cossacks crushed by cruel times. Next to it is an old railway car, in which tens of thousands of Cossacks with their wives and children were taken from Austria in 1945 to meet their demise in the USSR.
