One of the most notable modern monuments in Azov is the monument dedicated to Peter I's associate, the commander of the second Azov campaign and the first Russian generalissimo, boyar Alexei Semenovich Shein. This monument was unveiled on June 12, 2009.

The installation of the first monument to the Russian generalissimo Andrei Semenovich Shein specifically in Azov holds symbolic significance. Shein became known for his military campaigns in Azov, and it was here, in the battles for Azov, that he received the highest military rank.

Many centuries after these events, the bronze statue of the generalissimo, dressed in a military uniform and holding a saber, occupies an honorable place in the center of the city opposite the local history museum.

The monument to Alexei Shein, along with the monument to Peter the Great, the Azov fortress, and the local history museum, is part of a tourist complex that constitutes the historical heritage of the city.
