Initially, the street was named after Alexander Matrosov. The plans for the construction of the Southern microdistrict included a square named after A. Matrosov with a monument to the hero of the Great Patriotic War.

The construction of the microdistrict began in 1953, simultaneously with the construction of mine No. 3. The youth participated in the construction of the mine and the microdistrict, which is why the streets are named after the young guards and Komsomol members, participants in the Great Patriotic War.

The sculpture of Alexander Matrosov depicts him in full growth, in military uniform with a raincoat on his shoulders. In one hand, he holds a machine gun, and in the other, a helmet.

On the pedestal, there is a memorial plaque with a star and the inscription: "Hero of the Soviet Union, Guards Private Alexander Matrosov 1924, 1943." The pedestal has a three-tiered shape and is made of brick covered with plaster. The sculpture is made of concrete and plaster, and its height is 220 cm.
