Monument to A.S. Pushkin in Armavir

Фото 1
In 1952, a monument to Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin was erected in Armavir, in a square on Kirov Street, between Railway and Engels Streets, and the square was named after the poet.

Initially, the monument was made of gypsum concrete. Its height was 2.2 meters, and the pedestal reached 2.6 meters. In 1999, Armavir sculptor Sergey Andreevich Kamyshin conducted cosmetic restoration of the monument.

In 2006, when the condition of the monument worsened, a decision was made for its complete restoration. The work was again entrusted to sculptor S. A. Kamyshin. The monument was removed from the pedestal and transported to the workshop, where it was cast in bronze and a new pedestal was made. In 2007, on Pushkin's birthday, the updated monument returned to its place in the square.

In December 2009, the monument in the "Pushkin Square" underwent restoration again. The figure of the poet, which had begun to turn green, was cleaned with acid and painted. The pedestal was redesigned: instead of being wide and "heavy," it became more proportionate to the sculpture. The restoration was once again carried out by S. A. Kamyshin.

On the pedestal of the monument, there are inscriptions. On the front: "A. S. Pushkin, he is not only the Great Russian poet of his time but also the Great poet of all nations and ages. Worldwide glory. V. G. Belinsky." On the reverse side: "I lived for two months in the Caucasus. I saw the shores of Kuban and the watchful stanitsas, admired our Cossacks; always on horseback; always ready to fight; in eternal vigilance. A. S. Pushkin."

On the sides, one can read excerpts from the poem:

No, I shall not die entirely, my soul in the cherished lyre
My dust will outlive and escape decay.
And I shall be famous, as long as in the world beneath the moon
There lives at least one poet...

A. S. Pushkin

And I shall long be dear to the people,
For awakening good feelings with my lyre,
For in my cruel age I glorified freedom
And called for mercy to the fallen.
