The oldest stone civil building on Taganskaya Street is located in the courtyard of property No. 5. In 1724, here, in the former Semyonovskaya black settlement beyond the Tagan gates of the Earth City, Afanasy Kirillovich Grebenshchikov, a merchant from the "gostinaya sotnya," opened a factory for the production of "tin and tobacco pipes" products. The term "tin" comes from the German word Zinn, meaning tin, which was originally part of the glaze for ceramic products. The factory's range was diverse: from pipes and cheap tableware to expensive faience sets and figurines.

In the courtyard of Grebenshchikov stood chambers built at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, which have survived to this day (Taganskaya, 5, bldg. 2), as well as factory buildings that have not survived.

Afanasy Kirillovich was acquainted with Dmitry Ivanovich Vinogradov, the author of a work on porcelain production in Russia, who is often referred to as the "father of domestic porcelain." Afanasy's son, Ivan Afanasevich, a talented inventor, revealed the secret of making porcelain from Gzhel clays in 1747. However, the Grebenshchikovs could not establish porcelain production on their own due to high costs. They also did not receive a government subsidy, so they sold their developments to the Gardners, who began porcelain production at a factory in Verbilki. This factory later became part of the porcelain empire of Matvey Sidorovich Kuznetsov and still operates today.

The Grebenshchikovs focused on producing high-quality faience tableware. Their manufactory received orders from the nobility, wealthy merchants, and even the royal court.

The main house of the estate on Taganskaya Street has been rebuilt multiple times. In the 19th century, it received eclectic facade decoration, while remnants of baroque decoration are hidden under plaster.

The mansion is under state protection and preserves the memory of the largest Moscow ceramic factory of the 18th century.
