Alexander Alexandrovich Ofrosimov was born on January 26 (February 7) 1852 in the Oryol province and died on February 28, 1933. He was a statesman of the Russian Empire, serving as the Governor of Kaluga in 1897 and 1909, and as a senator from 1909 to 1917. Ofrosimov came from a hereditary noble family in the Oryol province and owned more than 1400 desyatinas of land in the Dmitrov and Mtsensk districts.

In 1872, he graduated from the Alexander Lyceum and began his service in the State Chancellery. In 1880, he became a chamber junker at the Court of His Imperial Majesty. Over the years, he held the positions of the head of the nobility in Dmitrov district and chairman of the congress of justices of the peace. In 1892, he received the title of state councilor, and in 1895, that of actual state councilor and the Order of Saint Vladimir.

From 1893, Ofrosimov was the Vice-Governor of Kaluga and actively contributed to the development of agriculture, serving as president of the agricultural society. In 1896, he became a chamberlain and participated in the ceremonies of the Holy Coronation. In 1897, he was appointed Governor of Kaluga, where he dealt with agricultural and educational issues, opening 35 new educational institutions.

Ofrosimov also worked on the improvement of Kaluga, developing water supply, landscaping, and street lighting. He established a society to promote trotting horse breeding and was the chairman of the local Red Cross administration. In 1903, he was awarded the title of privy councilor.

During the Russo-Japanese War, he actively supported the army, and during the revolutionary events of 1905-1906, he tried to maintain order in the province without using military force. In 1909, Ofrosimov was appointed senator and was noted for his exemplary governance of the province.

After the October Revolution, he moved to Zhytomyr, where he passed away in 1933. In his farewell speech, the provincial head of the nobility noted him as a kind and humane person who always stood for maintaining order and state life.
