The name of the Trading House is associated with the concept of "guest," which in ancient times referred to merchants engaged in wholesale and international trade in Russia and who had special privileges. The first such house appeared in Moscow in the early 16th century at the intersection of Ilyinka Street and Rybnoy Lane, known as Ilyinsky Cross.

During the reign of Ivan the Terrible, the wooden structure of the Trading House was replaced with a stone one, but it suffered from fires multiple times. During the reign of Alexei Mikhailovich, the house was divided into Old and New, and then into four parts: Old, New, Salt, and Fish.

In the 17th century, Rybnoy Lane was called Vvedensky due to the Church of the Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos. In the 18th century, it became Magistrate Lane because of the Main Magistrate located there. Later, the lane was named after the Public Fish Market that was situated here in the 18th and early 19th centuries. After the construction of the Old and New Trading Houses, the lane became a passage between their facades. The New Trading House was laid out between 1838 and 1840 on the site of the demolished Old Fish Rows.

At that time, the Moscow Merchant Society, experiencing a shortage of trading spaces in the Old Trading House, initiated the construction of additional premises. On the site of the Old Fish Rows, a three-story building with a long facade was erected on a high plinth. Built in the style of late classicism, the building also contains elements of Empire style.

The basement floor is finished with rustication, and the main facade is adorned with three recessed risalits with Ionic porticos and bas-reliefs between them. The building is distinguished by high windows on the main floor with solemn framing and a dome that crowns the central part.

In 1890, additional windows and doors were added to the main facade of the New Trading House, as well as passage arches, which disrupted the original symmetry of the building.

Today, some divisions of Rosimushchestvo are located in the building.
