In the 17th century, the village of Romanovsk served as the estate of the Moscow patriarchs. It is located on the Kirzhach River and is mentioned in the spiritual will of Prince Simeon the Proud. With the establishment of the Holy Synod, the village became synodal, and after the abolition of monastic estates, it passed into state ownership.

The church in Romanovsk existed as early as the 16th century: in 1585, it paid tribute amounting to five altyns and one and a half money, as well as ten money for tithes and ten money for visits. In 1628, the church is mentioned in the patriarchal salary books as "the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in the estate of the great sovereign, the holy patriarch Filaret Nikitich of Moscow and all Rus in the village of Romanovsk." This year, the tribute was set according to the old salary of 93 years, but in 1654 it was increased to one ruble 29 altyns with money and one grivna for visits.

According to the scribal books of 1644-1645, there were 18 quarters of arable land and 30 haystacks by the church. The 1654 books list one priest, 68 parish households, 8 quarters of arable land, and 40 haystacks. According to the census books of 1703, the church had priest Grigory Ignatiev, deacons Stefan Fedoseev and Peter Grigoryev, sexton Afanasy Ivanov, and prosphora baker Matrona Yegor'eva, with 184 households in the parish, 37 quarters of arable land, and 40 haystacks.

In 1705, the church in Romanovsk burned down, and a new wooden church was built in its place, consecrated in 1707 in honor of the Resurrection of Christ. In 1729, it burned down again, and at the request of priest Ilya Grigoryev and the parishioners, it was ordered to build a new church with the same name. In 1738, permission was granted to build a warm church for winter on the same churchyard, consecrated in 1742 in the name of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. In 1847, with the funds of the parishioners, a stone temple with a bell tower was erected instead of the two wooden churches. In the stone church, in addition to the main altar, warm chapels were arranged in the name of Nicholas the Wonderworker and Dimitri of Thessalonica. After 1939, the church was destroyed.
