The Museum of the Northwestern Front is located in the city of Staraya Russa, Novgorod Oblast, on Alexandrovskaya Street. It is the first museum in Russia dedicated to the history and activities of an entire front during the Great Patriotic War.

Since 1975, there has been an exhibition in the city telling about the military events on the old Russian land. From 1984, the museum was housed in the Resurrection Cathedral, which was returned to the believers in 1992. On February 18, 2003, on the day of the fifty-ninth anniversary of the liberation of Staraya Russa, the museum was ceremoniously reopened, combining already collected materials and many new exhibits.

The museum's uniqueness lies in its humanistic approach to the military theme. The exhibition materials illuminate the war from both sides of the front.

The main themes of the exhibition include the encirclement of the Demyansk grouping of German troops, the "Demyansk Cauldron", local battles and skirmishes in the "Ramushinsky Corridor", as well as topics of the rear, occupation, and liberation.

The museum features more than one and a half thousand exhibits, of which 840 are originals. The core of the collection consists of various weapons, maps, diagrams, documents, archival extracts, awards, photographs, and personal belongings belonging to both Soviet soldiers and German, Spanish, and Finnish servicemen of the Wehrmacht.

Of particular interest is a bell cast by master Benning in Lübeck, Germany, in 1672. In December 1942, it was taken from Staraya Russa and returned only in 2001.

Exhibits came from both local sources and veterans of the Wehrmacht. The museum's documents tell about the work of Soviet tribunals and punitive detachments, mistakes of the Red Army command, traitors, and personal stories of soldiers. The history of the partisan movement and underground activities in Staraya Russa is also covered in detail.

Next to the museum is an observation platform where a light tank T-26, raised from the Lovat River near the village of Korovitche, and two artillery pieces are displayed.

The museum is part of the Novgorod State United Museum-Reserve.
