The Lacquer Miniature Museum in Palekh is a collection of works from Palekh and Kholuy art, including painting and icon painting, dating back to the 17th century. It comprises four memorial museums: the P.D. Korin House Museum, the N.V. Dydykin Workshop Museum, the I.I. Golikov House Museum, and the N.M. Zinovyev Estate Museum. The museum's collection includes about seven thousand exhibits.

The history of the museum's establishment is linked to the activities of local masters who engaged in icon painting, primarily for the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, as well as creating affordable icons for the local residents. Their works were so popular that up to two million icons were produced annually. In 1934, an artistic cooperative was organized in Kholuy, specializing in the painting of lacquered items. Notable representatives of lacquer miniature include Valentin Fomin, Boris Tikhonravov, Nikolai Baburin, Boris Kiselev, Nikolai Denisov, Pavel Ivakin, and other artists whose works are widely represented in the Kholuy Lacquer Miniature Museum.

From the very beginning, the work of artists and masters from Ivanovo province attracted the attention of A.M. Gorky, who advised the residents of the village to preserve the best works in a separate place. As a result, a group of concerned citizens organized a room to store the first works. The official opening of the museum took place in 1934 in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Artel, which initiated the formation of the collection. Over 10 days, more than 140 lacquer miniature items were acquired, including the Vikhrev collection. The first director of the museum was German Vasilyevich Zhidkov, who suggested that local artists regularly replenish the exhibitions with new items. Among the exhibits in the museum's collection are V.K. Bureyev's box "The Capture of the Tank", N.D. Vakurov's plate "Emelyan Pugachev", V.M. Salabanov's box "Chichikov at Korobochka", I.I. Zubkov's plate "The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish", I.M. Bakanov's boxes "The Tale of the Golden Cockerel" and "The Bakhchisarai Fountain", A.V. Kotukhin's casket "The Tale of Tsar Saltan", I.V. Markichev's box "Three Wonders", I.P. Vakurov's box "Demons", and S.D. Solonin's box "The Stone Guest". The period of the 80s and 90s was the most challenging for the museum due to insufficient funding, which led to the collection being supplemented by only 59 works during this time.
