The Museum of Orthodox History was opened on November 4, 2016, coinciding with the celebration of the Day of National Unity and the Day of the Formation of the Mari Autonomous Region. It is a branch of the National Museum of the Republic of Mari El named after T. Evseev.

The museum's exhibition is dedicated to the history of Orthodoxy in the Mari land, including the construction of churches and parish life in the Mari region in the 18th and early 20th centuries. It also highlights the missionary and cultural-educational activities of the church during this period, the history of the Orthodox Church in the Soviet era, and the current state of Orthodoxy in the Republic of Mari El.

The exhibition features materials from the collections of the National Museum of the Republic of Mari El named after T. Evseev, such as icons, crucifixes, triptychs, vestments of clergy, photo documents, and spiritual literature. Installations include "The Monastic Cell of the Holy Trinity Women's Monastery in Kozmodemyansk" and "The Destruction of the Entrance to Jerusalem Church of the Mother of God-Sergiev Women's Monastery." Models of churches in Yoshkar-Ola can also be seen.
