The museum was opened on November 12, 1975. The idea for its creation belongs to Muscovites evacuated to Ulyanovsk along with ZIS in 1941. The foundation of the first exhibition consisted of authentic documents and photographs from the personal archive of one of the first leaders of the enterprise, E.A. Dundukov, as well as materials provided by the first workers of the plant. Veterans of the enterprise made a significant contribution to the formation of the museum collection. Thanks to their efforts, visitors can see not only documents and photographs but also personal belongings of factory workers who survived the war of 1941-1945. Each showcase and each stand vividly reflects the path taken by the automobile plant from its evacuation from Moscow to the present day.

The museum holds numerous domestic and international awards received by the automobile plant. Commemorative plaques, diplomas for the plant and its products, gifts for anniversary dates from other enterprises, all of this testifies to the recognition of the workers' achievements.

Today, the fund of the Museum of History and Labor Glory of OAO 'UAZ' contains over five thousand exhibits that visually tell about the stages of the enterprise's development, its role in the country's history, and its participation in the public life of the city.

During tours, visitors are introduced to the modern process of producing off-road vehicles and the latest technical achievements of the enterprise.

The museum often hosts meetings of veterans, round tables, as well as games and educational programs for children and students of secondary and higher educational institutions.

Every year, about four thousand people visit the museum's exhibition. Throughout the history of the museum, it has been visited by more than 220 thousand excursionists, including representatives from Italy, the USA, Cuba, Algeria, Iran, China, Cambodia, Germany, the Czech Republic, England, Vietnam, Japan, as well as government delegations from our country.

The exhibition complex presents an evolutionary series of UAZ vehicles produced by the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant throughout its history, starting from ZIS, 5B, and ending with modern UAZ models, 'PATRIOT'.

The order to organize the exhibition complex was issued on November 2, 1978. The initiator of the creation of the museum of cars and engines was the general director of the plant, Vitaly Vasilyevich Takhtarov.

The exhibition complex was prepared and opened to visitors in less than a week. Almost the entire plant participated in this event: workers from the stamping shop cleared the warehouse and adjacent territory of parts, bunkers, and scrap metal. The design department developed a project for sealing the roof. Employees of the mechanical assembly shop first conducted major repairs and then cosmetic repairs of the building. The plant's energy specialists installed electric lighting, while design bureau specialists prepared the floors and installed samples of museum cars, as well as developed the regulations and development plan for the museum.

The exhibition complex is one of the most visited places by guests of our city, region, and plant.

The exhibition complex plans to create various interactive zones so that each visitor can feel like they are in the mountains, desert, extreme north, or any continent where UAZ vehicles are used.
