On July 15, 1999, the Museum of History and Culture of the Syktyvdin District was opened in the building of the former primary school in the village of Vylgort. Its founder was Emilia Alexeyevna Nalimonova, an Honored Worker of the Komi Republic and an Honorary Citizen of the village of Vylgort and the Syktyvdin District. In June 2017, the museum was named after its founder.

Today, the museum's collection consists of 11,770 items, and the exhibition area is 489 sq.m. Permanent exhibitions and exhibition halls are located in 14 rooms. In the 'Open Funds' hall, you can see products from the Nyvchim Iron Foundry and Nyvchim lace. The painting gallery 'Museum within a Museum' showcases works by both professional and amateur artists, such as S.A. Torlopov, N.O. Polin, V.A. Nechaev, V.M. Kulikov, A.A. Kulikova, and others. A popular quest 'Secrets of the Art Gallery' is also held here.

The ethnographic exhibition includes a collection of household items, agriculture, fishing, and hunting of the Komi-Zyryans from the Usty-Sysolsky and Yaren districts at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. The exhibition in the History Hall tells about the development of industry, agriculture, sports, and medicine in the Syktyvdin District. A Craft and Industry Map of the district is also presented here. In the Hall of Military Glory, you can see letters, photographs, documents, personal belongings, and awards of the defenders of the Fatherland, including materials about the Hero of the Soviet Union N.V. Oplesnin, a native of the village of Vylgort.

The Nature Hall features collections of amazing species of birds, animals, plants, and even mammoth bones. The interior of the 'Room of Family Secrets and Legends' was created from furniture and household items belonging to the Shebolkin family. These relics were donated to the museum by the head of the Scientists' Club, Evgenia Shebolkina. The furniture, made by her grandfather Alexey Shebolkin, reflects the urban style of the early 20th century. The room also contains an ancient icon, family photographs, and the family tree. This place has become a popular venue for quests and memories, as well as the site for the annual research competition 'Family Secrets and Legends.'

Next to the museum is the K.F. Zhakov Square, named after the ethnographer, writer, and philosopher, a native of the village of Vylgort, created with grant funds. The tradition of holding Nalimon readings, dedicated to the scientific dynasty of Vasily Petrovich and Vasily Vasilievich Nalimonov, was established in December 1999. Since 2003, the museum has been implementing the project 'Syktyvdin's Kin' ('Сыктывдiнса рöдвуж'), which has won grant competitions. Within the framework of the project, meetings dedicated to family dynasties are held.

Since 2003, the 'Club of Scientists, Natives of the Syktyvdin District' has been operating at the museum. The club's creation was initiated by its leader E.P. Shebolkina and scientists K.S. Bobkova, A.G. Poroshkin, and S.I. Khudyaev. Since 2010, the museum has been implementing the project 'Kolana udj' ('Necessary Work'), which won a grant competition from the President of the Russian Federation. Traveling exhibitions from the funds of the National Museum of the Komi Republic, the National Gallery of the Komi Republic, and other cultural centers are organized in the museum's exhibition halls.
