The Museum of the History of Novokuybyshevsk was opened in 1977 at the initiative of I. A. Vennikov, a member of the Union of Journalists of Russia. Its creation was made possible through the joint efforts of the city authorities and industrial enterprises. In 1978, the museum became a branch of the Kuybyshev Regional Museum of Local Lore, now known as the Samara Regional Historical and Local Lore Museum named after P. Alabin. In 2001, the museum gained independence, becoming the Municipal Cultural Institution "Museum of the History of Novokuybyshevsk." In 2002, it moved to a new building, receiving about 1,000 sq. m for exhibitions.

The largest exhibition of the museum, "Modus Vivendi," covers all stages of the development of Novokuybyshevsk from 1947 to the present day. An important part of the museum is the exhibition "Fire Ring," based on fund collections and authentic testimonies related to the military events of the country and the city. In 2012, the project "Museum-Ethnographic School" was implemented with the support of the "Victoria" Charitable Foundation. This ethnographic exhibition tells about the life of indigenous ethnic groups that lived in the villages of Lipyagi two hundred years ago. In 2013, on the 10th anniversary of the foundation, an audio and video exhibition "Museum of the History of the Victoria Charitable Foundation" was opened. In 2015, an "Art Hall" appeared in the open storage funds, showcasing works by talented artists and sculptors, as well as decorative and applied arts. At the same time, the main building of the museum opened the 171st Virtual Branch of the Russian Museum. In December 2017, a new hall "Patchwork" was opened, featuring various types of fabrics and products made from them.

The museum's collection includes over 20,000 storage units, including more than 50 collections. Among them, the collection of clocks stands out, which includes over 300 exhibits donated to the museum by local master Vasily Danilovich Hetmansky.
