The museum is located in the historic part of Tula, in Zarechye, on the territory of the Arms Sloboda, where the Demidov family originated. It is situated next to the Church and Bell Tower of Nikolai-Zaretsky, which were built in the 1730s with funds from Akinfiy Demidov.

The main attraction of the museum is the family burial vault of the Demidovs in the Nikolai-Zaretsky Church, where representatives of the first generations of this family, who lived in Tula for a long time, are buried. The Nikolai-Zaretsky or Demidov Church with the burial vault is a unique historical and cultural monument of federal significance. This corner of old Tula attracts the attention of not only scholars and local historians but also tourists from various cities.

The exhibition hall features unique finds from archaeological excavations of the Demidov burial vault, authentic samples of Tula weapon production from the 16th-17th centuries, copper dishes from the 18th century made by Ural masters, as well as items from lock and hardware production of the 18th-19th centuries and miniature figurine locks from the late 18th century. Of particular interest are monuments of science and technology, such as universal sundials from the early 19th century and a geodetic astrolabe. The museum also showcases rare images of representatives of the Demidov dynasty, including modern descendants. The museum implements interesting exhibition projects, such as "Laureates of the Demidov Prizes," dedicated to outstanding figures of Russian science, and "Famous Wives of the Demidovs," which for the first time addresses the role of women in the fate of the Demidovs, inspiring their husbands to great achievements. Among them are Matilda Bonaparte, Aurora Karlovna Shernval, Elizabeth Stroganova, Ekaterina Lopukhina, and others. The connection of the Demidovs with Italy inspired the creation of a series of exhibitions, such as "Dolce Italia. Demidovs in Italy" and "The Italian Branch of the Demidovs," organized in collaboration with the Center for Russian Culture in Rome.

As part of its cultural and educational activities, the museum offers programs for younger and middle school children, including thematic interactive classes. These classes are of a historical and local history nature and are accompanied by demonstrations of authentic museum items, taking place in a playful format. Programs include "Tula, a Look into the Past," "Tula, City of Craftsmen," "The Tale of How Nikita Demidov Met Peter I," "The Old Tula Shop on Demidov Street," "Visiting a Tula Gymnasium Student," and others. Within the framework of the program "Folk Culture for Children," classes on the history of Filimonovo toys, folk costumes, and workshops on making traditional rag dolls are conducted.
