The building of the Prechistenka Fire Station attracts attention both for its architecture and history, as well as for its continuity of functions and literary mentions. It is featured in M.A. Bulgakov's work "Heart of a Dog," where the unfortunate dog Sharik, running by, smells the onions coming from the fire brigade.

In the 19th century, the chief firefighter of Moscow, the brand-major, lived here. Later, the office of the head of the Fire Safety Administration was located in the building, and currently, it houses the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in Moscow. The depot is open for visits: the museum of the Prechistenka Fire Station presents historical exhibits related to the development of firefighting and the history of the building.

The construction of the building took place in several stages, as was often the case in Moscow. Its oldest part, a two-story L-shaped structure with a historical layout, was built in 1764. The corners of the building were rounded, and the architect remains unknown, although some local historians suggest the involvement of Matvey Kazakov. At the turn of the century, the house was raised and adorned with a classical portico on an arcade.

The building has belonged at different times to Princess Khovanskaya, N.I. Rtishchev, and the family of General A.P. Yermolov. After the fire of 1812, it was restored by the relatives of General Yermolov, who lived nearby. In 1835, the building was purchased for the Moscow Fire Station, which was moved from Volkhonka due to the construction of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The site was expanded by adding a new wing to the house that echoed elements of the old part, giving the building an impressive appearance. The first floor is distinguished by rustication, the windows are adorned with keystones, and the intricate cornice is complemented by modillions. In 1843, a fire tower was built on the building, which was dismantled in 1930.

The density of construction on the site constantly increased: service buildings expanded, and in 1915, a new wing was added, designed in the style of the main facade.
