In the 1770s, the plot at the corner of Kuznetsky Most belonged to Count I.I. Vorontsov. By the end of the 18th century, his extensive property, stretching from Rozhdestvenka to Petrovka, was divided into several parts, which passed to different owners. In 1875, this plot became the property of merchant I.G. Firsanov, and later his daughter Vera Firsanova. In the mid-1890s, she sold it to the Moscow International Trade Bank, founded by L.S. Polyakov. Polyakov, known as a concessionaire in railway construction and the creator of several Russian banks, began the construction of the bank building on Kuznetsky Most.

Architect S.S. Eibushitz, with the participation of engineer V.G. Shukhov, who designed the structures for the operational hall, completed the building in 1898. It is executed in the style of Roman Baroque, faced with Radom sandstones and decorated with zinc ornaments. The building is conveniently located at the bend of Kuznetsky Most and completes the perspective from Neglinnaya Street. Originally, a small attic was located above the corner facade, which was lost in the 1930s.

In 1901, an unusual restaurant for Moscow, "Kvisisano," opened in one of the building's rooms, where snacks and drinks were purchased through vending machines, without the involvement of waiters.

In the early 20th century, Polyakov's financial situation deteriorated due to a crisis. An audit revealed multi-million debts of his enterprises. The state bank provided a large loan to save his banks from bankruptcy, but Polyakov was removed from business. Several of his banks, including the Moscow International Trade Bank, merged into the United Bank, which was located in the building at the corner of Rozhdestvenka until the revolution.

During the Soviet era, the Central Savings Bank, the International Bank for Economic Cooperation, and the Housing and Social Bank of the USSR were located here. For some time, the State Institute of Art Studies, led by I.E. Grabar, was housed on the third floor.

Today, the building retains its banking status and is the main branch of the Bank of Moscow.
