In November 2012, the Petropavlovsk and Kamchatka Diocese, together with the Regional Public Organization "Kamchatka Marine Assembly," decided to build the Kamchatka Marine Cathedral in honor of Archangel Michael in memory of the fallen sailors and fishermen.

The site chosen for the cathedral is Mount "Radio Communication" on the territory of the St. Panteleimon Male Monastery in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. From the top of the mount, there is a picturesque view of the city and Avachinskaya Bay.

On August 28, 2013, with the blessing of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Bishop Artemiy of Petropavlovsk and Kamchatka consecrated the stone at the foundation of the cathedral.

The cathedral will be 41 meters high, cover an area of 400 square meters, and accommodate 500 people. The building will house classrooms for Sunday school and a baptismal area. Memorial plaques with the names of fallen sailors and fishermen will be installed around the cathedral.

The Kamchatka Marine Cathedral will become an architectural adornment of the city and will be visible to all arriving by sea. Thanks to its lighting, it will serve as a landmark for ships entering Avachinskaya Bay at night. The cathedral will be a source of spiritual knowledge and culture for the residents of the region.

In July 2015, the construction of the lower church of the cathedral was completed, which was consecrated in honor of Saint Prince Vladimir. The lower church is now open for visits.

A Sunday school and a sisterhood of mercy, providing assistance in hospitals, operate at the cathedral. There is also a service for helping the homeless.
