Numerous Assassination Attempts on the Father of Russian Reforms: Part One

Фото 1
During his outstanding political career, Pyotr Arkadyevich Stolypin became one of the main targets for revolutionaries, surviving 11 known assassination attempts, the last of which was fatal. This remarkable man enjoyed immense trust from Nicholas II, but at the same time provoked fierce hatred from many, ranging from terrorists to high-ranking officials. The reason for such hatred is simple: Stolypin always sought to strengthen Russia, leaving no room for personal enrichment of the executors. With each of his promotions and successful steps, the hatred towards him grew, and the number of assassination attempts increased.

The first known attempt on Stolypin occurred in Saratov, where he was governor. During a visit to the rebellious province, an unknown assailant fired at him twice but missed. Unarmed, Stolypin not only did not try to take cover but also chased after the criminal, however, he was stopped by one of the accompanying officials. Soon, another assassination attempt was made on him: a terrorist threw a bomb while Stolypin was speaking in the theater square, but the shrapnel did not hit him.

In addition to these Saratov attempts, there were at least two more. One of them was prevented in advance, and during the second, Stolypin opened his coat and, looking the assassin in the eye, loudly said: 'Shoot!' The terrorist was so taken aback by his fearlessness that he turned pale, lowered his revolver, and dropped it.

Unfortunately, after Stolypin was transferred to the capital, the assassination attempts not only did not cease but also increased. I will tell you about this in the second part of our story.
