In February 1982, a decision was made to open the district historical and local lore museum. The founders of the museum were the secretary of the RK CPSU Alexander Ivanovich, the head of the district culture department Anatoly Nikolaevich Karasev, the correspondent of the district newspaper "Iskra" Fyodor Alexandrovich Borisov, as well as Zinaida Dmitrievna Shaldikova, Nelly Ivanovna Varlakova, Anna Stepanovna Balukova, and others. Alexander Antonovich Bindyuk was appointed as the museum's director, and for over 20 years, Alexander Pavlovich Sychev served as the custodian of the collections, who is credited with the main merit in the museum's creation. He collected exhibits ranging from serious to the most unusual.

Today, the collections of the Mishkinsky District Historical and Local Lore Museum number over 8,000 storage units, including rare and unique items. In the hall dedicated to the Great Patriotic War, one can see exhibits such as a 20-number switchboard, a camera from the 1930s, and a phonograph. The history hall of the region's settlement and peasant life features millstones, looms, a weaving machine, a cradle, sugar tongs, bast shoes, gravestones from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and a moss saw. In the industry hall of the district, particular interest is drawn to a pilot's compensating suit, photo panoramas of Mishkino from 1982 and 2010, a KVN-49 television set, and a fire helmet from 1926. Among the museum's exhibits is also a 4-bucket samovar from 1898 from Tula, rare documents, a bell from 1912 for the Nikolskaya church in the village of Ivanovo, and many other items. The museum's photo archive contains over 2,000 photographs from the 20th century.

In 2000, the museum received an honorary diploma as a laureate for participating in regional competitions dedicated to the 55th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. In 2005, it was awarded a commendation from the regional review-competition "Heritage," dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Victory. In 2009, the museum became a holder of a III degree diploma as the winner of the regional review-competition "Choice in Russia, History and Modernity." In 2012, it received a diploma as a laureate of the regional interdepartmental review-competition "Heritage," dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Russia's victory in the Patriotic War of 1812, as well as a letter of gratitude from the Mishkinsky District Duma. In 2015 and 2016, the museum was awarded letters of gratitude from the head of the Mishkinsky District.

Annually, the museum organizes over 20 exhibitions dedicated to folk and decorative-applied arts. Events, lectures, creative meetings are held, and research work is conducted. Since 2015, the museum has begun organizing tourist services, including sightseeing tours of Mishkino, visits to merchant houses and mills from the early last century, visits to churches, museums of the history of the Mishkinsky Professional-Pedagogical College, and district public catering networks, as well as the production of traditional Russian folk dolls.
