The monastery in the village of Kadom was founded in 1797 as a women's almshouse at the Dmitrievsky church on the initiative of E.F. Rozhnova and E.F. Gorskaya, who prepared for its opening from 1793 to 1797. In 1824, according to the will of S.M. Bogdanova, her house with the estate was transferred to the monastery. In 1849, the institution was renamed a women's community, where the life of the nuns was organized according to the rule of the Sarov desert. The first services were held in the Dmitrievsky church. From 1852 to 1856, a summer stone church in honor of the icon of the Mother of God of Mercy was built, consecrated in 1857. Later, according to the design of architect Chetverikov, chapels in the Russian-Byzantine style were added: on the southern side in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord, and on the northern side, in honor of the venerable Sergius of Radonezh. The church was adorned with wall paintings, and a bell tower was erected in the southern part. In 1858, a stone fence was built, followed by the second and third churches. In the second half of the 19th century, a two-story stone building and outbuildings appeared. In 1868, the monastery received a new name, the Kadom Women's Mercy of the Mother of God Monastery. By 1914, it housed 365 residents, and the monastery owned 622 acres of land. Among the monastery's relics were the church icon of the Mother of God of Mercy and the image of the Mother of God "Unfading Flower" in Byzantine style. After 1917, the monastery faced destruction: priests, nuns, and orphaned children were evicted, property was nationalized and partially destroyed. Unique books, icons, and archives were lost. In the spring of 1920, the cathedral church was turned into a grain storage facility and then into a training building for a sewing college. In the 1930s, the domes were removed. The second church became a warehouse for the district consumer union, and the third, wooden church was dismantled. In the 1990s, fundraising began for the restoration of the church, which was handed over to the Church by local authorities in 1993. The monastery was finally revived in April 1997. The stone church in honor of the icon of the Mother of God of Mercy with two chapels was consecrated on August 31, 1997. The monastery has a residential building, where the first floor contains rooms for pilgrims, a dining room, and a bakery, while the second floor has the sisters' cells. In 2008, restoration work was carried out in the church: a new roof was installed, the facade was partially restored, and the tent and domes were restored. Today, the monastery is actively being revived.
