MGES-1: Office with Pumping Station

Фото 1
The control building, known as the office, was part of the original project of the Rausha Power Plant, approved by the Moscow City Administration on June 20, 1896. By November 1897, the construction of the three-story building was completed, which was later raised by a fourth floor in 1911 according to the design of architect N.P. Basin, while preserving its original architectural style. A skylight was added to the roof. The building, executed in a neoclassical style with elements of Art Nouveau, features two side risalits.

In the 1920s, a new building for synchronous frequency converters was constructed on the adjacent site (Rausha Embankment, house 12), and the eastern wall of the office building became a shared wall for buildings No. 10, building 2, and No. 12 on Rausha Embankment, rising three stories high. Since 2004, the building has been recognized as a cultural heritage site of regional significance.

The main facade of the building faces Rausha Embankment. To the west, it adjoins the main building of HPP-1, and to the east, the building housing the machine hall of synchronous converters. The side risalits emphasize the main entrance (west) and the passage to the inner courtyard (east).

The decorative finishing of the floors is diverse. The first floor is designed with large rustication and plastered "under a fur coat," its rectangular windows lack trim. The second-floor windows are semi-circular, while the third-floor windows are adorned with flat trim and architraves. The fourth floor stands out with rectangular windows that are larger than those on the lower floors. The risalits on the upper floor feature large arched windows with keystones, above which rise parapet walls. The rusticated pilasters of the risalits are decorated with stucco garlands in the form of bundles of lightning. The original metal gates in the passage arch and the metal decorative canopy above the entrance have been preserved.

The courtyard facade is finished with fine rustication all the way up. There are extensions from 1904 and 1930 on the courtyard side. Experts note that the elements of the structures and decor of the building's facades possess a high degree of authenticity and are in satisfactory technical condition.
