Pyotr Arkadyevich Stolypin is considered one of the outstanding reformers in Russian history, and his name is known far beyond our country's borders. In his short but eventful life, he left a good memory in various cities and among many peoples, including the Lithuanians. Modern residents of Lithuania know where this great reformer began his journey and have gladly commemorated his memory in their capital. In December 2009, a memorial plaque with a bas-relief depicting Stolypin was installed in Vilnius. It was placed on the wall of an ancient building on Svjanto Stepono Street, where the future statesman lived and studied at a local gymnasium.

The initiative to install the memorial plaque came not from the Russian side, but from local residents. Lithuanian publicist Pranas Morkus found this house and started a campaign to immortalize Stolypin's name in Vilnius. It took ten years for approval, fundraising, and the creation of the bas-relief plaque, and the opening took place in a solemn atmosphere. The vice-mayor of Vilnius attended the ceremony and noted the significance of Pyotr Arkadyevich and this event for Lithuania. Stolypin's grandson was also present at the opening, emphasizing his ancestor's love for Lithuania and his desire to return here. Thus, Stolypin's dream was fulfilled almost a hundred years after his death.

The presence of this memorial plaque in Lithuania speaks volumes. It is not a formal attitude towards a historical figure and not just a gesture for an anniversary. It is a sincere tribute to the actions and achievements that Stolypin accomplished in his 49 years of life, and it is the highest recognition of his merits given by Lithuania.
