On the 30th anniversary of Victory, on May 8, 1975, a permanent exhibition 'Gorky Residents to the Front' was opened inside the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin near the Dmitrievskaya Tower. It is dedicated to the labor feats of the residents of Gorky during the Great Patriotic War. On the same day, a memorial plaque was installed in honor of the military units formed in the city of Gorky and the Gorky region during the war years.

In 1979, the Gorky City Executive Committee decided that by the 35th anniversary of Victory, the weapons exhibition in the Kremlin would be granted memorial status. On May 8, 1980, a memorial sign with the inscription 'Gorky Residents to the Front' was installed on the territory of the memorial.

At the entrance to the memorial, there is a memorial sign faced with granite slabs. One of the slabs bears the text: 'From generation to generation, the words will be passed down about those who defended the Soviet Motherland with weapons in hand during the time of great trials, as well as about those who forged weapons, built tanks and airplanes, smelted steel for shells, and whose labor feats were worthy of the military valor of the fighters.' On another slab, it states: '2,360 tanks, 1,500 airplanes, 9,000 self-propelled units, and 10,000 mortars were supplied to the front. The enterprises of the city produced combat vehicles “Katyusha” and other military equipment.'

Along the Kremlin wall, weapons produced during the war in the city of Gorky are displayed on pedestals. Among the exhibits are the T-34 tank, BA-64 armored car, cannons, mortar, SU-76 self-propelled gun, BM-13 'Katyusha', La-7 fighter, and the conning tower of the submarine 'S-13.'
