The Literary and Local History Museum of Konstantin Balmont in Shuya is located in a historic building that once served as the city administration. This green structure in the Russian style of the early 20th century attracts attention with its beautiful window frames, rich decor, and two-colored tent roof. It is the first museum in Russia dedicated to the Silver Age poet Konstantin Balmont. However, it will be interesting not only to lovers of Russian literature, as it covers other topics as well.

Visitors to the museum are greeted by a luxurious grand staircase that seems to invite them to ascend and explore the collection. The core of the exhibition is a local history collection that includes exhibits dedicated to the nature of the Shuya district, the history of the city, and its residents. Here, one can see a rare portrait of the nun Marfa, the mother of the first tsar from the Romanov dynasty, Mikhail Fyodorovich, a model of the Shuya Kremlin, and works by local craftsmen. The museum's art collection is also impressive, with a significant part donated by actress Ekaterina Mazurova, known for her roles in the films 'When Trees Were Big' and 'Gentlemen of Fortune,' who moved to Shuya after her career ended. The collection features works by Makovsky, Levitan, rare porcelain, a collection of 542 eggs, a mammoth jaw, women's costumes from the 19th-20th centuries, banknotes from the 18th-20th centuries, and a photo archive 'Shuya and Shuya Residents of the 19th-20th Centuries.'

One of the most popular exhibits is a wooden hand for alms, which was once attached to the wall of one of the city's churches. A coin had to be dropped into the slit on the palm, after which it rolled down a groove into a bag.

A large exhibition on the second floor is dedicated to the life and work of Konstantin Balmont, a native of the Shuya district. It features lifetime editions, documents, personal belongings, and autographs of the poet. Among the exhibits is a copy of Harriet Beecher Stowe's 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' with Balmont's autograph and a pen he gifted to his wife, Ekaterina Alexeyevna.

Balmont lived in Shuya from 1876 to 1884, a time of his adolescence and early youth, impressions of which he conveyed in the poem 'Drema.' In addition to the poet's belongings, the hall displays artifacts that convey the atmosphere of that time, photographs of old Shuya, and typical household items of an intellectual family. The museum often hosts meetings and creative evenings featuring the poet's descendants, who periodically visit their native places.
