The Lhgovo Local History Museum was established by the decision of the Kursk Regional Executive Committee thanks to the initiative of local historian S.V. Lagutich and the support of the City Council of People's Deputies. In 2014, it became a branch of the Kursk Regional Local History Museum.

The museum is located in a one-story brick building constructed in the 1890s.

The museum's collection includes over 20,000 items related to history and culture. It features collections of archaeology, everyday life and ethnography, photo documents, archival documents, painting, graphics, applied arts, numismatics, and more.

The exhibition area of the museum is 65.2 square meters.

An important part of the exhibition includes materials on the history of Lhgovo, starting from the ancient Russian city of Olhgovo and ending with the county and district center. The permanent exhibition "On the Lhgovo Bridgehead" showcases materials about the Great Patriotic War, including film footage of the liberation of Lhgovo in 1943, battles on the Kursk Bulge, and photographs of war participants.

The museum regularly hosts changing thematic exhibitions.

In addition to overview and thematic tours, museum staff organize master classes, interactive games, lectures, memorial evenings, and city tours, including trips to the Lyushinskoye settlement and the Gorodenskaya watchtower.

The museum is visited by about 4,000 people annually.
