For a long time, the Caucasus has become a tourist Mecca of Russia due to its healing springs, picturesque nature, and magnificent views. To allow people to enjoy the beauty of the mountains and valleys, several observation platforms were built here in the 19th century, one of which was called Belvedere. It was located at the top of the Hot Mountain cliff behind the Academic Gallery.

At that time, the Elizabethan spring became popular, and the chief physician of the Caucasian mineral waters, Fyodor Konradi, proposed to build a gazebo so that tourists could breathe in the fresh mountain air. The project was carried out by the architects Bernardazzi, who created a simple yet elegant structure. A flagpole was placed on the dome, where the Russian flag was raised on the opening day of the healing season. Nearby was a bell and a clock that signaled the bathers about the time.

By the 1880s, the gazebo had fallen into disrepair, and a decision was made to build a new one in its place. As a result, an octagonal pavilion with a belvedere under the dome was created, adorned with exquisite wood carvings. The gazebo was named Belvedere, which translates from French as 'charming view.' Many tourists visited here, and numerous compliments and declarations of love were made.

However, the fate of the pavilion turned out to be unfortunate. In 1911, it burned down. Local authorities soon built a new gazebo with a cross-shaped gable roof, but it also stood for only 7 years. In 1918, during the chaos in the country, it too burned down. It was never restored, and now this site is overgrown with grass. Today, it is hard to imagine that this place was once one of the most popular among pre-revolutionary tourists.
