A monument of history and architecture from the second half of the 19th century, the former parish school, is a two-story stone building that was part of an architectural ensemble.
Local customs, folklore, and even dialect distinguish this region from others. The Vokhma Museum carefully preserves the history and culture of this unique area. Its rich and diverse collections include unique fabrics, painted wooden dishes, agricultural tools, and other implements. Exhibits are displayed in both temporary exhibitions and in four museum halls. The nature hall particularly interests visitors, where one can feel the atmosphere of the Vokhma region.
Among the many memorial and historical sites in the Kostroma region, the Vokhma Local History Museum, located in the village of Vokhma in the Kostroma region, holds a special place.
The local history museum was founded in 1919 in the village of Voznesenye, Vokhma, shortly after the October Revolution of 1917. Even during that turbulent time, significant attention was paid to the creation of museums and the preservation of cultural and historical values. In 1918, the Council of People's Commissars issued a decree on the preservation and accounting of monuments of antiquity and art, signed by V.I. Lenin in October 1918. The museum was founded by Mikhail Alexandrovich Osipov, a doctor who arrived in Vokhma in 1912 after graduating from Kazan University, who later became the chairman of the Volost Council. Despite the difficulties of that time, significant attention was given to the creation of museums and the preservation of historical and cultural values. Art connoisseurs consider the Vokhma Museum to be the guardian of the culture and history of the Kostroma region.
