The Pronsk Local History Museum was established in 1990 as a repository of antiquities. It was founded and headed by A.P. Gruzintseva, an honorary citizen of the Pronsk district and a distinguished cultural worker of Russia.

In 2006, the museum received municipal status.

The museum is located in the building of the former Pronsk district school, built in 1836 and recognized as a historical and cultural monument. This building is situated on the high Pokrovsky hill, where the Pronsk fortress stood until the 18th century, serving as the southern outpost of the Ryazan lands. From here, there is a picturesque view of the surroundings. Notable figures such as I.V. Michurin, the famous scientist-breeder, I.I. Shcherbakov, a Hero of the Soviet Union, and K.B. Ptitsa, the choir director of Gosteleradio and a People's Artist of the USSR, studied at this school. The Pronsk land has nearly nine centuries of history. In the 12th-13th centuries, Pronsk was the second most significant city in the Ryazan land and the center of an independent principality. The museum collects exhibits that reflect the life and activities of our ancestors and has accumulated interesting material about the outstanding people of the district. The museum has halls with permanent exhibitions: "History and Life of the Ancient City of Pronsk," "Pronsk, the District City," and "Fellow Countrymen Who Glorified Their Land and Homeland."

Before the revolution, there were seven churches and two monasteries in Pronsk. An important part of the museum's exhibition includes items from church and monastery life: icons, utensils, books, clergy clothing, and others. The museum staff actively collaborates with artists, folk art masters, and maintains a regional database of decorative and applied arts craftsmen. Annual exhibitions are held featuring local masters and artists, as well as masters and artists from Ryazan and the region. Exhibitions by Ryazan artist Andrei Mironov and doll master Olga Korobova have generated significant interest.

For the 885th anniversary of Pronsk, an exhibition of artists and craftsmen from the Pronsk district is planned for September 2016.

The museum actively works with youth, organizing a series of lectures on crime prevention and promoting a healthy lifestyle with the participation of Father Luka, the rector of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Pronsk Men's Monastery.

The total area of the museum is 384 sq.m, and the main fund consists of 2504 storage units. The museum's collections include about 100 paintings by Ryazan, Novomichurinsk, and Pronsk painters, among which the triptych "Liberation of Pronsk from the Poles. 17th Century" by Ryazan artist E.A. Borisov stands out. The museum's work is aimed at studying and showcasing the centuries-old history of the Pronsk land. The museum hosts a Club of History Lovers of the Pronsk Region, which is engaged in restoring historical events, collecting and documenting information about the lives of people, enterprises, and institutions in the settlement, as well as significant events. Reports by club members on the history of the Pronsk District Hospital, known since 1928, on illustrator P.M. Boklevsky, and a presentation about Pronsk residents, child prisoners of fascism, have generated great interest.
