The museum was opened on May 1, 1964, and is now located in one of the oldest buildings in the city, constructed at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Originally, this building housed a Greek school.

The museum's exhibition covers many pages of our area's history, starting from the ancient Greek slave-holding state of Bosporus and ending in the Middle Ages. The 'Nature' hall impresses with its beauty, and colorful dioramas tell about the flora and fauna of the region. The 'Local History' hall features a collection of ethnographic items that narrate the history of the settlement of the Krymsk region. A separate hall is dedicated to the events of the Great Patriotic War. It was in the Krymsk region that the central section of the 'Blue Line,' the last and most powerful fortification of the fascists in the Caucasus, was located.

In this hall, one can see weapons, documents, photographs, and personal belongings of combat participants, including the outstanding commander G.K. Zhukov, renowned military leaders A.A. Grechko, K.A. Vershinin, and our fellow countryman, twice Hero of the Soviet Union V.A. Aleksenko.

A particular point of interest is the diorama dedicated to the combat actions at height 121.4, known as 'Hill of Heroes.'

The museum building was constructed in 1901 on a plot donated by a wealthy Greek, Angelis Kalianidis. Originally, there was a Greek school here.
