Alexander Andreyevich Kozlov was born on August 30, 1880. Left without parents at an early age, he was raised in a foster family. In 1902, he graduated from the Moscow Architectural and Construction School, obtaining the profession of builder. The famous architect Fyodor Osipovich Shekhtel, one of the founders of Russian Art Nouveau and Kozlov's teacher, invited him to work as an assistant in his workshop. A few years later, Shekhtel entrusted Kozlov with the construction of the Winter Theater in Yekaterinodar, based on a project commissioned by merchants V. Gurenkov and N. Boldenkov. The young architect successfully completed this task.

After finishing the theater, Kozlov built the hotels "Metropol," "National," "Central," Akulov's house, a hydrotherapy center, the Nikiforaki mansion, and other buildings. He boldly used asymmetric forms, which gave his constructions dynamism and liveliness. After marrying Yekaterina Nikolaevna Zolotarevskaya, he built a two-story "house with a rose" on his property.

With the advent of Soviet power, the architect worked in the stanitsas, building elevators, and in 1925, after moving with his family to Salsk, he designed and constructed all the service buildings there, including the executive committee, hospital, and nursery. Since 1930, the Kozlov family lived in Taganrog, where Alexander Andreyevich worked as the chief engineer at a metallurgical plant. There he fell seriously ill and passed away on May 4, 1940.
