The Front Gates, located on the territory of the Tsar's estate Kolomenskoye, were built in 1673 during the reign of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. These gates served as the main entrance to the summer royal residence, as the ceremonial entrance to Kolomenskoye was from the side of the Moscow River via the "embassy" road. It was through these gates that high-ranking guests entered the Tsar's court, where they were greeted with the "ingenious device" so beloved by Russian monarchs. The "curiosity" was represented by large mechanical lions created by the foreign master Peter Vysotsky. These lions, made of wood and covered with fur resembling that of a lion, emitted a fearsome roar and rotated their eyes thanks to clockwork mechanisms inside.

The central element of the ensemble of the Front Gates is a complex four-tiered rectangular building standing on a white stone pedestal. The lower tier features two vaulted openings of different heights for vehicle passage and pedestrian access. The second tier houses a large Organ Chamber, where the mechanism that operated the lion figures was installed. The third tier contained the clock mechanism, and above it hung the bells of the clock chime. At the top of the octagonal dome was a wooden royal double-headed eagle with a crown, covered in white iron.

On the northern side, the stone one-story chambers of the Prikaznaya Izba adjoin the Front Gates, where the administrative management of the estate was located. To the south were the Colonel's chambers and ice houses with a unique white stone drainage system for the runoff of melting ice. In 2002-2003, after restoration work, the roof was renewed and the white stone pedestal was recreated, allowing the Gates to regain their historical appearance.

In the first half of 2004, an exhibition titled "Milestones in the History of Kolomenskoye" opened in the ensemble of the Front Gates. For the convenience of visitors, a stair lift, ramps, a narrow wheelchair, and a parking space have been provided. A plaque with a relief image of the building and texts in Russian and English, as well as in Braille, has been installed in front of the monument. An audio guide and a sensory kiosk with information about all the halls of the exhibition are available.
