Among the outstanding artists of Russian opera, Fedor Petrovich Komissarzhevsky holds a special place, known not only as a singer but also as a teacher.

Born in 1838 in the Kiev province, his life resembles a detective story with unexpected twists. Although some details of his biography remain unknown, the fact of his studies in Italy is confirmed. Interestingly, in Italy, Fedor Petrovich not only sang in opera but also participated in battles under the command of Giuseppe Garibaldi. In 1863, he returned to St. Petersburg and joined the Italian opera, where he worked for 17 years, after which he moved to the Mariinsky Theatre in 1880. Among his achievements is the performance of the role of False Dmitry in the opera 'Boris Godunov.'

In 1882, Komissarzhevsky moved to Moscow, where he began working at the Bolshoi Theatre and teaching at the conservatory. In Moscow, he not only continued his career as a singer and teacher but also helped many future stars by teaching them the craft. He also successfully tried his hand as a stage director. Fedor Petrovich founded the 'Society of Art and Literature' and a musical-dramatic school. He worked in Russia for over thirty years, and then, as if sensing the end, returned to Italy, where his career began.

Fedor Petrovich lived for 67 years and died on March 14, 1905. He was buried in Rome at the Testaccio cemetery. The name Komissarzhevsky continued to resonate in the theatrical world thanks to his daughter Vera Komissarzhevskaya, who became an outstanding Russian actress, and his son Fedor Fedorovich Komissarzhevsky, a no less talented director.
