Among the many attractions of Kaluga, the stone bridge connecting both sides of the Berezuy Ravine stands out. This bridge, opened in 1785, is considered the oldest in Russia. Its construction was initiated by the prominent Kaluga governor Mikhail Nikitich Krechetikov, who was responsible for many remarkable places in the city.

In 1910, the bridge was reinforced with reinforced concrete and did not undergo repairs until 2009, which were needed after a minor collapse. Despite this, its historical appearance was fully preserved.

Previously, a stream flowed under the bridge, but over time it dried up, leaving only the ravine. Nevertheless, even in its current state, the bridge and the surrounding area continue to impress both locals and tourists with their beauty. The people of Kaluga love this place and often come here on their wedding day. However, the history of the bridge also knows tragic cases: some girls jumped into the ravine due to unrequited love, and once a groom, trying to joke, dropped his bride, which ended sadly.

If we look back at the more ancient history of this place, it was once inhabited by the Berendeis, a term used for Tatars who served the tsar. The modern Berendyakovskaya Street serves as a reminder of those times. The inhabitants of these places were not primitive: even before the Time of Troubles, leather factories operated here, and stone houses were built. Later, the settlements united into a city, and the stone bridge connected two parts of Kaluga, separated by the Berezuy Ravine, marking an important milestone in the city's history.
