The Labinskaya stanitsa was founded in 1841 on the right bank of the Laba River at the initiative of Major General G. K. Zass, the commander of the right flank of the Caucasian line. In 1840, he proposed to move the forward line of the Russian border from Kuban to Laba, which was implemented by the autumn of that year with a detachment of 5 battalions and 2 thousand Cossacks and militiamen.

On January 31, 1891, a new church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary in honor of her miraculous Assumption was consecrated in Labinsk. In 1904, the Maykop merchant K. Y. Sushkov and his wife Matryona Andreevna donated over 10 thousand rubles and received permission to add a brick bell tower and an altar to the church, where they arranged a family burial vault. The consecration of the new altar in honor of Seraphim of Sarov took place on December 5, 1904.

The architecture of the church is eclectic. The classical elements include the layout of the building and the portico-entrances from the north and south, while the Russian church architecture features five domes and a tent-like bell tower. The exterior is adorned with brackets, friezes, pilasters, and window architraves.

In the 1930s, no earlier than 1933, the Assumption church was closed and used as a grain storage facility. In 1938, it began to be converted into a stanitsa club, which continued until the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. In 1942, during the occupation, the Orthodox community of Labinsk restored the Assumption parish, and services resumed. On February 17, 1944, the building at 44 Krasnaya Street was transferred to the Assumption community. In 1961, the community was deregistered, the building was sealed, and it remained vacant until 1967, after which it was turned into a House of Culture, and from 1971, a gym for the DSO 'Urozhay'.

On August 30, 1991, the building of the Assumption church was returned to the Church.
