The Ilyinsky temple was built according to the design of architects P.V. Dudin and V.M. Zakharov, combining the best traditions of Russian Orthodox architecture with modern construction technologies. The building has a foundation measuring 42 by 30 meters, and the height to the base of the main dome is 31.5 meters. The temple is adorned with four small domes with crosses and a dome on the bell tower, which houses 10 bells weighing from 4 to 1200 kg. The iconostasis is made of cast stone, imitating white marble. The temple can accommodate more than one and a half thousand parishioners at the same time.
There was already an Ilyinsky temple in Rossosh, the construction of which began in 1897 according to the design of architect N. Afanasyev and lasted almost 19 years. It is known that the holy righteous John of Kronstadt donated to its construction. However, in 1929, the church was blown up, and no photographs have survived.
On September 19, 2000, a solemn consecration of the cornerstone of the new Ilyinsky temple took place in October Square of the city. In 2001, the foundation was laid, but construction was halted due to a lack of funds. By the fall of 2003, the walls had been erected, and the construction of the vaults began. At the end of 2005, State Duma deputy N.M. Olshansky, in memory of his son Igor, took on the responsibility for the construction. At a meeting at OAO "Minudobreniya" with the participation of architects and representatives of construction organizations, it was decided to complete the work by August 2, in order to hold the consecration. The main funding was provided by the chemical plant, and the city and district administrations also actively participated. All work was completed on time, and the temple became a decoration of Rossosh and the Voronezh land.
On August 1, 2006, Metropolitan of Voronezh and Borisoglebsk Sergey performed the great consecration of the temple. The festive service was attended by deputy N.M. Olshansky, head of the Voronezh region administration V.G. Kulakov, head of the regional Duma V.I. Klyuchnikov, as well as representatives of the district and city administrations.
Among the revered icons of the temple complex are: the image of the Sicilian Mother of God, the image of the Iberian Mother of God, and the icon of St. Tikhon of Voronezh, the miracle worker of Zadonsk with a particle of relics.
