The Historical and Local Lore Memorial Museum in Sosnogorsk was founded on May 21, 1990. Thanks to the residents of the city, the museum has collected archival documents, photographs, and items of material culture. The collections include objects of material and spiritual culture of the Komi people, as well as natural science and photo-documentary archives.

The main areas of the museum's work include the development of excursions, lectures, and video lectures, providing services for compiling historical references and searching for materials, creating souvenirs from museum exhibits, as well as developing brochures and other printed materials. The museum is actively engaged in exhibition activities.

Since 2014, the museum has won three grants from the Head of the Komi Republic and participates in the charitable program "Museums of the Russian North" from the company "Severstal." It also participates in forums and conferences in Cherepovets, Totma, Vologda, Vorkuta, Moscow, and Syktyvkar.

In April 2018, the museum took first place in the Republican excursion competition "Family Pass," dedicated to the Year of Culture in Komi, with the project "In Search of Legends Through the Wonderful Park," a walking tour of the Family Park "Yugid Lun."

The excursion competition was organized by the Komi public organization "Federation of Tourism of the Republic" with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Presidential Grants Fund. In October 2018, the museum participated in the competition of the "Museums of the Russian North" program, which allowed funding for a trip to Vorkuta.

Thanks to winning the travel grant competition, the museum director Oksana Vladimirovna Chekirda attended the Interregional Scientific and Practical Conference in Vorkuta, where she presented a report on event tourism in the Sosnogorsk district, promoting local festivals.

In 2020, the museum won a grant from the Head of the Komi Republic again with the project "Talking Objects," aimed at adapting museum programs for people with disabilities. The project was implemented from May to September 2020 and focused on creating an accessible environment and developing active leisure for special visitors.

Museum staff continuously improve their qualifications through research work in the field of local lore. The museum strives to be modern and interesting, actively seeking new forms of work to attract visitors.
