The museum, founded in 1934, is located in a manor that previously belonged to the merchant-old believer P.P. Sharygin. Among the museums of the Nizhny Novgorod region, it holds a special place as a historical and art museum. Its activities cover a wide range of directions. Situated in the depths of Russia, the museum boasts a collection of over 20,000 exhibits.

The museum preserves and collects items of artistic and historical significance that can be considered masterpieces of art. Here, one can see unique golden patterns of Khokhloma, famous Matryoshka dolls, ancient carved house boards, a rich collection of carved items, the renowned Russian wooden spoon, and much more. Visitors can expect an exciting story about the Semyonovo region, known as a refuge for dissenters and the center of Old Belief.
