The museum is a unique cultural space that combines knowledge of the past, reflections on the present, and views on a possible future. The history of the Bolshoye Selo Museum began on June 21, 1969. At its opening, special attention was paid to exhibitions dedicated to the history of the Bolshoye Selo party. In the early 1970s, the museum was temporarily closed, but it reopened its doors to visitors in 1973. During this time, it existed as a people's museum, and in 2001, a museum and exhibition center was established at the district House of Culture. In 2015, a decree was issued by the head to create a legal entity, the Municipal Cultural Institution 'Bolshoye Selo Historical and Art Museum.'

The museum staff actively works on expanding the collection. In 2016, the House of Culture, library, and museum were merged, resulting in the creation of a museum and exhibition activities department, led by Nadezhda Mikhailovna Gracheva.
