The stone estate church of the Assumption, built in 1778, served four generations of the Tyutchev family, who were exemplary benefactors of their church. After the death of F.I. Tyutchev, the estate in Ovstug lost its appeal for his relatives. The Assumption Church remained longer than other buildings of the estate but was closed in the spring of 1930 and gradually fell into ruin. During the Great Patriotic War, it was blown up by the fascists, and after the war, a cultural center was built in its place.

By the 200th anniversary of F.I. Tyutchev, the institute "Spetsproyektrestavratsiya" under the leadership of V.N. Sharapov conducted historical and archival research, which provided reliable data for restoration. The Assumption Church was recreated at a new location based on the project by architects O.V. Klemapova, M.G. Bolotnikova, and O.A. Grozeva, with funding provided by the construction firm "Knauf" from Bavaria.

On June 11, 2000, the first stone was laid at the site of the revived church. The Assumption Church was consecrated on June 15, 2003, and on December 5 of the same year, in accordance with the tradition of the past century, the poet's 200th anniversary was celebrated in the recreated building of the church with a requiem liturgy.
