In the 1850s, a decision was made to build a church on the grounds of the city cemetery. Architectural ideas for the Assumption Church were borrowed from the album of architect K. Ton, published in 1838. The construction of the church was completed in 1863, and it was consecrated in the same year. To the southwest of the church, along the cemetery boundary, a one-story building with gates and a bell tower was erected. The funding for the construction of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church was provided by the local merchant Medvedev. From 1890 to 1900, the church was reconstructed.

Today, only one 19th-century church, the Assumption Church, has survived in the city of Bobrov. In 1983, this beautiful church, built in the Russian-Byzantine style, was granted the status of a historical and architectural monument.
