In 1998, at the request of students and faculty, an Orthodox community was established at Kursk State Pedagogical University in the name of Saints Cyril and Methodius. It was decided to build a church in honor of these saints in the picturesque courtyard of the university. The construction was planned as a spiritual and educational center for the youth of the city and region.

The initiator of the university church's construction was the honored sculptor of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Klykov, who created the sketch of the future church.

On May 24, 1998, Archbishop Juvenaly of Kursk and Rylsk laid the cornerstone at the site of the future church. The project was developed by architects and engineers under the guidance of Valery Mikhailov.

On Palm Sunday in 1999, the rector consecrated the altar in the home church located on the first floor of the main building in classroom No. 36.

From 1999 to 2007, construction work was carried out. In 2008, for Easter, the Holy Trinity Brotherhood from the city of Shchigry made and installed a magnificent iconostasis. That same year, on May 24, during the feast of Saints Cyril and Methodius, Archbishop German of Kursk and Rylsk performed the Great Consecration of the church.
