In 1640, the Voivode of Polotsk, Jan Kaminski, founded a monastery of the Greek-Catholic Basilian order in Gorodishche and built a wooden church. At the end of the 18th century, a stone church was erected on the site of the wooden one.

After the Polish uprising of 1863, the authorities closed all Greek-Catholic monasteries in modern Belarus, transferring them to the Orthodox Church. The Gorodishche church faced this fate in 1867. It was consecrated as the Orthodox Holy Trinity Church on March 19, 1868. In 1873, a project for a complete reconstruction of the church was proposed to give it a more Orthodox appearance, but ultimately, only the construction of a bell tower and five small domes was completed. These works were finished between 1874 and 1876.

In 1915-1916, the church suffered significant damage during military actions: part of the wall and the apse were destroyed.

In 1919, after Gorodishche came under Polish jurisdiction, the church was returned to Catholics, and in 1930 it was reconstructed with consideration of the original architecture. After World War II, the church was closed and used as a furniture warehouse. In the 1990s, it was returned to the faithful, restored, and now serves as the parish Catholic church of Gorodishche, the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
