The church is mentioned in the "Topographical Description of the Kursk Province" from 1784, which states: "in this village, there is a wooden church in the name of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica, with five households of clergy and church servants, totaling 15 souls." The clerical report of 1837 indicates that the wooden church building with an iron bell tower was built in 1782, although the existence of metric books from 1775 in the state archive may suggest an earlier construction date.

The church owned lands: estate land, 3 dessiatines, arable and haymaking land, 66 dessiatines. Two priests served in the church: Nikita Yakovlevich Kharlanov and Stefan Ivanovich Olyokhin. The parishioners included one-dweller families from the village of Chyorny Olyekh: 319 men and 331 women (58 households); the village of Budishchi: 533 men and 498 women (88 households); the village of Osipova Luka: 157 men and 150 women (28 households). There were 30 dissenters of the non-popov sect.

In 1857, a new church building, named the Demetrius Church, was constructed through the efforts of the parishioners. The parish included the villages of Osipova Luka and Budishchi. In 1908, there were 1300 Orthodox parishioners and 170 dissenters and sectarians. The clerical report of 1916 indicated that the church owned 3 dessiatines of estate land, 83 dessiatines and 2160 square fathoms of arable land, and 6 dessiatines of haymaking land, which was used jointly with the peasants. The quality of the land was rated as average, and the income from it amounted to 400 rubles.

The church building was wooden on a stone foundation, with a bell tower built in the same style. The church had one altar in the name of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica. In 1914, the construction of a stone church began.

In 1916, the village of Chyorny Olyekh had 151 houses, inhabited by 594 men and 525 women; the village of Osipova Luka had 58 houses with 250 men and 235 women; in Budishchi, there were 228 houses, 784 men and 747 women. In total, the parish had 437 houses, 1628 men and 1507 women, including 5 men and 15 women (3 houses) of the clergy; 1623 men and 1492 women (434 houses) of peasants; 79 men and 74 women (38 households) of dissenters; and 1 man and 3 women of sectarians.

Three zemstvo schools operated in the parish, one of which in the village of Chyorny Olyekh was transformed in 1913 into a two-class exemplary school. Since 1911, the priest of the Demetrius Church was Yakov Ivanovich Sokolovsky, 28 years old, who also taught the law of God in the school. The church library held 51 volumes of spiritual literature. The nearest churches to the Demetrius Church were the Trinity Church in the village of Vorobzhi and the Michael-Archangel Church in the village of Kozyrevka, both three versts away.

After the decree of the SNK of the RSFSR "On the Separation of Church from State and School from Church" was adopted in 1918, the Demetrius Church continued its activities.

In the "Inventory of the Church and Church Utensils of the Demetrius Church of the village of Chyorny Olyekh," compiled in December 1920, it is noted that the church is wooden, covered with iron, stands on a stone foundation, has 4 copper bells, a wooden gilded iconostasis, and 100 icons of various sizes (of which 35 are old), 8 crosses on the altar (2 silver, 1 copper, 5 tin) and other church property.

During the occupation in the years of the Great Patriotic War, services resumed in the church watchman's house. On October 26, 1944, a prayer house was registered in the village of Chyorny Olyekh, which in the 1950s was located in rented premises. The "General List of Parishes and Churches of the Kursk Diocese" mentions the Demetrius Church of the village of Chyorny Olyekh as of January 1, 1960. In subsequent years, the church remained active. In accordance with the RSFSR law "On Freedom of Conscience" from October 25, 1990, the Orthodox parish of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica in the village of Chyorny Olyekh was registered (June 5, 1991, No. 69). According to the Federal Law "On Freedom of Conscience and Religious Associations" from September 26, 1997, the registration of the religious organization of the Orthodox parish of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica in the village of Chyorny Olyekh was renewed (December 7, 1999, No. 177p).
