In 1893, a solemn consecration of the renovated church dedicated to the Holy Prophet Hosea took place in Karachev. This event was timed to the anniversary of the miraculous salvation of the Imperial family during the train crash on October 17, 1888.

On the southern outskirts of Karachev, on a road previously called Spasskaya, stood an old stone church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, which had fallen into disrepair over time. In 1888, a new church was consecrated, and the old one began to deteriorate. Benefactor Ivan Nikolayevich Kochergin decided to restore it and adapt it for worship, dedicating the church to the Holy Prophet Hosea in memory of the salvation of the Imperial family.

The Orlov Diocesan Authority prohibited the demolition of the old church, but due to cracks, Kochergin appealed to the Chief Prosecutor of the Holy Synod for permission to renovate it. The Synod granted consent, and the work began.

Kochergin planned to consecrate the church on October 17, but the Bishop postponed the ceremony as a liturgy was held that day at the Orlov Cathedral. The consecration was rescheduled for October 31.

After the consecration, the Bishop addressed Kochergin with a speech and blessed him with an icon of the Savior. Then, a reception was held at Kochergin's house, attended by the Bishop, the commander of the artillery brigade, representatives of the nobility, and educational institutions. Ivan Nikolayevich thanked everyone for their attention and expressed joy at the completion of the good deed.

Guests were offered a meal with toasts for the health of the Emperor and his family, as well as for all present. In the evening, the Bishop departed for the railway station, accompanied by clergy and teachers. After the consecration, the city's residents discussed the kindness and accessibility of the Archpastor. In conclusion, the archpriest Mikhail Pokrovsky noted that Ivan Nikolayevich Kochergin invested over 18,000 rubles in the church's reconstruction.
