The Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist in the village of Makhnovka, Suja District, was built around 1870. According to local residents, its construction was funded by the community and voluntary donations from wealthy individuals who sincerely believed in Jesus Christ. During World War II, the church was closed, but after the war, services resumed. In 1954, the church was permanently closed and was used by the collective farm as a grain storage facility. The floors were completely torn out, and the bell tower was destroyed.

Restoration of the church began in 1990. Currently, work is underway to restore the bell tower's dome, and the restoration process is nearing completion.
