The village of Ust-Lyža, located in the Usinsk urban district, is situated on the left bank of the Pechora River, at the confluence of the Lyža River. The first mentions of the village date back to the first half of the 19th century. The local rivers and lakes, rich in fish, attracted the first settlers here.

According to legend, a mountain once stood where Ust-Lyža is now. This area is renowned for its beauty. On the mountain, a forest hut was built, where travelers on reindeer from nearby villages would stop, exclaiming each time: "Lord, bless this place." Over time, several families settled here, starting to farm and clear the forest for fields. These people were known for their hard work.

In 1899, a church dedicated to the Apostle Philip was built in the village. Nearby was the building of a former primary school, managed by the Synod. Peasants studied the law of God, as well as learning arithmetic, writing, and reading. The education lasted two years, without age separation. The church, like many others in the north, was closed during the Soviet era and later converted into a club.

The old cemetery of the village is still in disarray. The graves of clergymen and residents are deteriorating. The church building has been preserved fairly well, although it has undergone repairs. From here, there is a good view of the river.
