Originally, the church of St. Stephen of Perm was conceived as a chapel. In the 1930s, it was transformed into a church, relocating the iconostasis from a destroyed church, where a chapel and a monument to the victims of political repression now stand. In the 1940s, the church was looted, and the bell tower was demolished at that time. In the late 1980s, the parish was restored, and since the early 1990s, it has become the Ib Seraphim Women’s Monastery, where the chapel-church became the main shrine.

A special place among wooden churches is occupied by the restored St. Stephen Chapel in the village of Ib in the Syktyvdin district, built in 1995-1996. The building's design was developed by Vologda provincial engineer N. Pukhlov, who, like many of his contemporaries, was inspired by ancient Russian architecture and followed the 'Russian style' that emerged in the late 19th century. In the completion of the chapel, adorned with carvings, he used a tent shape popular among folk craftsmen. Built in 1896, the chapel is unique and is the only 'everyday' chapel in the republic. According to legend, its log structure was erected in one day 'by the whole world' in memory of St. Stephen, who preached Christianity here over 500 years ago. The restoration of the chapel, led by Yu.A. Ekishev, was timed to the 600th anniversary of St. Stephen's death and was made possible by the efforts and funds of the Directorate for the Protection of Monuments.

On May 5, 1996, the restored church was consecrated by Bishop Pitirim of Vorkuta and Syktyvkar in the name of St. Stephen of Perm. In October of the same year, it was transferred to the newly opened Ib Seraphim Women’s Monastery. The restoration of wooden religious structures in the republic, initiated in the late 1980s and early 1990s by the Ministry of Culture of the Komi Republic, remains an important task for preserving the cultural heritage and wealth of the Komi people. By a resolution of the State Council of the Komi Republic, these churches, along with other preserved ones, were transferred to the ownership of the Russian Orthodox Church.
