St. Nicholas the Wonderworker Church in Vysokoe

Фото 1
In 1717, written sources mention Vysokoe as a village, indicating the presence of a church that has not survived to this day. The church in this location is known since 1805. It was closed in 1938, and in 1939, the building was repurposed as a cultural house. In 1941, during the German-Fascist occupation, services resumed. However, after the liberation of Bryansk region in 1943, the church was closed again by Soviet authorities and converted into a warehouse. Over the years of neglect and destruction, the building fell into disrepair, and in 1976, the dome collapsed. Restoration work began in 1989. The interior of the church features a spacious octagonal hall covered by a faceted vault.
