The first information about the church in the village of Ivnya, according to research by Kursk researcher and architecture candidate E.V. Kholodova, dates back to the 1770s. In the land surveying documents of that period, a second name for the village, Troitskoye, is mentioned, likely related to the Church of the Holy Trinity. However, in the description of the Kursk governorate in the 1780s, a church "in the name of the descent of the Holy Spirit, with the altar of Nicholas the Wonderworker" is noted. The exact location of the first church in Ivnya is unknown, but it is believed to have been on the edge of the old cemetery, which has not survived (now this is the corner of Shkolny Lane and Lenin Street). According to V. Davydov from the book "Churches of Belgorod Region", a stone building of the Trinity Church was constructed in Ivnya in 1859. It was located in the estate park owned by the landowners Karamzin and Kleinmichiel, who owned the village at that time.

This church functioned until the early 1930s. After the Great Patriotic War, the church building was dismantled for bricks. The revival of church life in Ivnya began in the 1990s, when the parish of the St. Nicholas Church was formed, belonging to the Moscow Patriarchate. Initially, services were held in a converted room of the former Procurement Office on Lesnaya Street, near the Cheremoshnoe area. At the same time, from 1997 to 2000, the construction of a new church building was underway on the outskirts of the sanatorium (former estate) park, at the corner of Sadovaya and Kommunalnaya Streets. The new St. Nicholas Church in Ivnya was solemnly consecrated on October 1, 2000, by Archbishop (now Metropolitan) John (Popov) of Belgorod and Stary Oskol.
